Proof House Governance

The Worshipful Company of Gunmakers are custodians of The Proof House

Governance Structure of the Court

The Worshipful Company of Gunmakers, as an ancient livery, is governed by a traditional structure that reflects its historical roots and the esteemed nature of its membership. At the helm of this structure is the Master, who is elected annually and officially installed during the Nomination Dinner. The Master is supported by two Wardens: the Upper Warden and the Renter Warden, who assist in the governance and operational oversight of the Company.

The Court is further comprised of the Court of Assistants and Stewards, forming an effective corporate board of executives. This assembly brings together a wealth of expertise, including seasoned Gunmakers, legal professionals, business experts, and financial specialists, ensuring a broad range of competencies within the governance framework.

The primary responsibility of the Court is to oversee the management of the Company and its various working committees. This oversight is facilitated through the Clerks' office, which plays a vital role in maintaining the fellowship of the Livery and coordinating activities.

One of the key roles within this governance structure is that of the Proof Master, who is tasked with ensuring all matters related to proof, deactivation, and public safety are effectively managed. The Proof Master operates under the authority of the Proof House Committee, which in turn reports directly to the Court, ensuring that safety and compliance standards are upheld for the benefit of the public.

In summary, the governance of the Worshipful Company of Gunmakers is a blend of ancient tradition and modern expertise, dedicated to the responsible management of the Company and the welfare of its members and the public.
