The McMillan Trophy

Recognising exceptional

skill in gun making

Only awarded on merit

The McMillan Trophy is a prestigious award presented by the Worshipful Company of Gunmakers to recognise exceptional skill in gunmaking. Established through the generosity of the late Past Master Emeritus Count Andrew McMillan, Baron of Cleghorn, the trophy is awarded at the discretion of the Certification Panel to individuals whose work demonstrates outstanding craftsmanship. Notably, the award is not necessarily given annually; it is reserved for those whose submissions meet the panel's exacting standards. Recipients are honored at the Company's annual Nomination Dinner, where they receive the sterling silver and gilt-lined trophy, the Company's Silver Medal, and a certificate. The trophy itself remains on permanent display at the Proof House in London.

Past recipients of the McMillan Trophy include notable craftsmen such as Louis Hart, a stocker from James Purdey & Sons, recognised for his outstanding demonstration pieces, and Mark Renmant, factory manager at John Rigby & Co., honored for his exemplary work in gunmaking.
